Starting Photography
I started photography at the end of January 2017 (last year, as of this writing). I purchased a refurbished Canon T5i/700D with the 18-55mm IS STM kit lens on Amazon. Interestingly, I bought this kit for $449, but it’s now listed at $549 on Amazon. I haven’t done much this past year, so I’m planning to use this website to document my starting photography along with my Youtube Channel.
First Year
My first year starting photography I didn’t have any idea about composition, leading lines, the exposure triangle, or how to edit images. I mostly captured snapshots and used the camera to record short Youtube videos (mostly documenting my attempt at growing a beard). My wife and I also became parents to a Beagle puppy, so most of the images captured were of him.
The first weekend I had my camera, I visited Sky Meadows in Northern Virginia and captured some images during the late-morning sun.
At the time, I used Photoshop Elements to edit my pictures. I picked up Lightroom at the end of 2017, and have just recently started learning a little bit of Photoshop.
Wedding Trip and More Dogs
In August of 2017 my wife and I were married at the beautiful Turtle Bay Resort. The resort is located on the North Shore of Oahu and is surrounded by beautiful beaches and serene mountains. The Hawaiian Islands definitely make a great backdrop for photos.
I was capturing all of my photos in RAW format and using Lightroom to edit. Mainly, I was sharing these images to Instagram, although I did have a couple printed in a Photo Book using Blurb.
After the wedding we flew to Korea to visit family and adopted a rescued Jindo/Shiba mix. We also adopted a Beagle/Shiba mix.
Present Day
I am mostly using our three dogs as subjects for my photos as I continue to learn about composition and editing techniques. Also, I’ve grown my lens collection to include the Yongnuo 50mm f1.8 and the Canon 55-250mm f4-5.6. I uploaded a short video on the 50mm and will do one on the 55-250 in the future.
I originally started this web page as a more general purpose blog along with my Youtube Channel. Going forward, I’ll be using this site and my channel to document my photography journey. Feel free to subscribe and leave me some comments, and I’ll see you in the next one.
